Running Backs

Grade: B+

Matt Forte was looked at as a shrewd signing for the Jets, replacing Chris Ivory, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. Paired with Bilal Powell, the Jets had a solid running back duo that could impact the game in a multitude of ways.

Both Forte and Powell are strong receivers out of the backfield. Forte has proven he can still be an every down back if given the chance as well. When the Jets feed Forte, they win. In the three games that Forte has received at least 25 carries, the Jets are 3-0.

That is the Jets’ bread-and-butter. If they run the ball and control the clock, they can have success. Forte isn’t putting up otherworldly numbers, but he gets the job done. He has run for 542 yards and six touchdowns on 157 carries. He has added 20 receptions for 163 yards and one touchdown.

Powell has taken a clear backseat to Forte in the pecking order but has performed when called upon. He has 213 yards on 30 carries, averaging 7.1 yards per carry, with two touchdowns. He has 25 receptions for 159 yards as well.
