– Strong Run Defense

The Jets don’t have a whole lot going for them this season, but their greatest strength appears to be their run defense. After the win against Cleveland, the Jets are now ranked first in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game at 74.0. In addition to that, they are tied for first in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers is rushing yards allowed per attempt.

Coming into Week 8, the Browns have had a pretty solid rushing attack. The backfield combination of Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson Jr. has done very well for the struggling Browns this season. In the loss to the Jets, Crowell was pretty much shut down, as he totaled 29 rushing yards on 11 carries with one rushing touchdown. Johnson had a bit more success with 29 rushing yards on just four carries, but he didn’t get as many chances to run the ball as Crowell.

While the Jets’ pass defense hasn’t stopped anyone this season, their run defense has proven to be very good. The ability to stop good rushing attacks is keeping the Jets’ defense from totally falling apart this season. If the Jets are going to win their next game against the Dolphins, they will need to continue to stop the run, which is something the Dolphins have done well in recent weeks.
