The New York Jets were embarrassed by the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football as they hit rock bottom.

The New York Jets struggles continued against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. The Jets were embarrassed on Monday Night Football, as the Cardinals blew them out of the Univeristy of Phoenix Stadium, 28-3.

It was a listless game for the Jets, who were dominated from the opening kickoff through the final whistle. It was a disastrous homecoming for Todd Bowles, who was the defensive coordinator for the Cardinals prior to taking over for the Jets. He could be hoping he was back with the Cardinals, as the Jets hit a new low against his former team.

There were no positives to take away for the Jets in this game as it was over pretty much before it began. The Jets looked overmatched in every facet of the game, even though the Cardinals are having struggles of their own. The biggest difference? The Jets do not have David Johnson.

Johnson tore the Jets up throughout the evening. He got things started in a big way, running for a 59-yard touchdown for the first score in the game. That was only the beginning for Johnson, as he had a big night against the Jets.

Johnson would receive 22 carries and turn it into 111 yards, averaging five yards per carry. He hit paydirt three times and turned three receptions into 27 yards. The Jets had no answer for Johnson, but that is a problem many teams in the NFL will have. While the Jets performance attempting to stop Johnson was pitiful, it was arguably not their worst of the night.

Arguably their worst infraction was how undisciplined they were. The Jets were flagged 10 times, resulting in 83 penalty yards. That is more than a third of the actual offense that they put together, as the Jets totaled only 230 yards; 197 passing and an embarrassing 33 on the ground.

To make matters worse, the Jets look like they officially have a quarterback controversy on their hands. It has been weeks in the making, as Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked horrific since defeating the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. After another lackluster performance against the Cardinals, Bowles finally pulled the plug and went with Geno Smith.

Smith didn’t fare much better, but given the situation, it was unlikely he would find much success. But, the fact he got into the game tonight is telling. The Jets coaching staff could finally be souring on Fitzpatrick, as he wasn’t removed from the game against the Kansas City Chiefs when he threw six interceptions.

The Jets have to do something to try and jump start this team, as they are going nowhere fast. Their season is on life support, if it isn’t already over, with a 1-5 record. Everyone should be on notice as the Jets look like they have hit rock bottom and could begin making some changes. At this point, it wouldn’t hurt as things can’t possibly get any worse.
