Odell Beckham Jr. had a career game against the Baltimore Ravens, but he is happy his late game penalty didn’t cost the New York Giants a victory.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. came up big when the New York Giants really needed him. Riding a three-game losing streak, the Giants were desperate to get back into the win column. Things looked bleak early on against the Baltimore Ravens, as the offense was struggling once again. To make matter worse, Beckham Jr. was forced to the locker room with an injury.

Beckham Jr. suffered a hip pointer laying out to try and catch a pass from Eli Manning. It forced him to miss some of the second quarter. Coincidentally, the Giants offense finally got going when Beckham Jr. was forced from the game, getting their first points of the afternoon. It caused a lot of pain, as he was unsure he would be able to finish the game.

"“Whatever it is, it was bad. It was bothering me all game,” Beckham said. “Even on the last drive, I told [fellow wide receiver] Roger Lewis, get your mind right because you’re going to score the game-winning touchdown.“I sat there and just prayed. I prayed for strength. He placed his hand of anointment on me and he did. I was able to go out there, get enough adrenaline to make a play and put us in position.”"

More from New York Giants

Beckham Jr. was able to gut the game out, and the Giants are glad that he did. After halftime, Beckham Jr. turned things up as the Giants offense carried their momentum through the half. The Ravens had absolutely no answer for Beckham Jr., who went on to have the best statistical day of his career.

Beckham Jr. would gain 212 yards in the second half with two touchdowns. It was a strong bounce back, as he fumbled on the Giants’ first play of the game. That put the Giants in a 10-0 hole, but Beckham Jr. did a lot to help them get out of that hole.

Beckham Jr. roasted the Ravens secondary for his touchdowns. Both times he just ran past them. The first was a 75-yarder near the end of the third quarter, with the second coming on fourth-and-one with under two minutes left on a slant for the game-winning score.

The score put the Giants ahead, but they were not yet out of the woods. The Giants defense needed to make one more stop, and that became more difficult after Beckham Jr. was handed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty after removing his helmet.

It put the Giants in a tougher spot but ultimately didn’t cost the team as they held on to win. It is something Beckham Jr. was happy about after the game. “I’m very thankful that the penalty on that didn’t cost us in the end,” Beckham said.

It is the type of play that would normally draw scrutiny, as it negatively impacted the team. But, since the Giants were able to come away with a victory, unlike in the other games he had outbursts this season, it will not receive that kind of attention.
