New York Jets: Eric Decker Trending In Wrong Direction
The New York Jets have growing concerns about the severity of Eric Decker’s shoulder injury.
The New York Jets are coming off a rough game in Week 3, as the Kansas City Chiefs took advantage of an erratic Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Jets were already dealing with a hampered Brandon Marshall, but their wide receiver group looks more like an infirmary this week than last.
The Jets will be without rookie wide receiver Jalin Marshall for at least two weeks as he will rehab a torn labrum. J. Marshall returns kicks and punts for the Jets, so his loss with be felt on special teams more than offensively. Offensively the Jets will be severely impacted if Eric Decker is forced to miss time.
There is growing concern about the availability of Decker, who is set to undergo an MRI on his shoulder this week to see the severity of the injury. Decker played every snap against the Chiefs this past weekend, but managed only one reception. He didn’t say anything about the shoulder soreness until Tuesday, and the Jets are worried.
Decker was absent from practice Wednesday, as he was not on the field with his teammates. Head coach Todd Bowles is not sure yet whether Decker will take the field Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, but he was not overly optimistic.
“Anybody that doesn’t practice I’m concerned about,” Bowles said. “He came back last week without practicing, so we just have to wait and see.”
Decker was able to get some practice time in last week and was not on the injury report according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini. That is what makes this week difficult to forecast, as Decker has not been on the practice field as he awaits more tests on his shoulder.

This injury could not come at a worse time for the Jets, as their offense is out of sorts. With both Marshalls already dealing with injuries, the Jets are going deep into their depth chart against one of the most vaunted defenses in the NFL.
If Decker is unable to get on the field, things could get ugly against the Seahawks. All of the attention could be given to an already hampered B. Marshall, leaving it up to early season surprise Quincy Enunwa and rookies Charone Peake and Robbie Anderson to pick up the slack.
Asking such inexperienced players to come in and perform is a tall task; having them do it against a team like the Seahawks is asking a lot. The Jets will have to figure it out, as their season is hanging in the balance despite being only three games into things.

Things will not get any easier for the Jets as they travel to take on Super Bowl contenders in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals in back-to-back weeks, with both games on the road. Without Decker in the lineup, or a healthy B. Marshall, the Jets offense could see more performances reminiscent of Sunday against the Chiefs than Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.
