Eli Manning, Drew Brees Moving Up All-Time Passing List
Eli Manning and Drew Brees both continued climbing the NFL’s all-time pass yardage list when the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints matched up in Week 2.
Eli Manning and Drew Brees are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Both are Super Bowl winners on the field and very charitable off of it. They are two players that are easy to root for and should be Hall of Fame bound at the end of their respective careers.
Both players have put up some prolific stats in their careers and added to those totals Sunday afternoon. Manning’s New York Giants defeated Brees’ New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium 16-13; a far cry from last season’s shootout which Brees and the Saints won 52-49.
Despite the score not being as high, both Manning and Brees saw some success Sunday afternoon. In the process, both also moved up on the NFL’s all-time pass yardage leaders list.

Manning finished the game 32-of-41 for 368 yards as he picked apart a decimated Saints’ secondary throughout the afternoon. He rarely faced pressure and was able to find his trio of wide receivers in Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz consistently. All three were able to make plays to help give Manning another big yardage game.
For his efforts, Manning moved into the top-10 of the NFL’s all-time passing yardage list with 44,762 yards. That is enough for him to surpass Drew Bledsoe, who had 44,611 yards in his 14-year career. This should not be the last time we see Manning move up this list this season.
There is a good chance that Manning finds himself ranked eighth by the end of the season, jumping over Vinny Testaverde (46,233 yards) and Fran Tarkenton (47,003 yards). He has an outside shot of finishing seventh, where Warren Moon currently sits with 49,325 yards. He would have to have a monster season, but with the way his receivers look right now it is not out of the realm of possibilities that Manning finishes the season with over 5,000 yards.
While Manning is 10th overall on the all-time list, he is third among active quarterbacks. Tom Brady ranks fifth with 58,028, and then there is Brees with 61,589 yards, including today’s game total of 263 yards.
The 263-yard effort pushed Brees into third place all-time, surpassing the great Dan Marino, who had 61,361 yards in his career. Brees only has two more players ahead of him on the all-time yardage list; Brett Favre with 71,838 yards and Peyton Manning with 71,940 yards.

While Brees will not be catching them this season, he has a chance to catch them in his career. Brees has been adamant about wanting to continue playing, and at a high level, into his 40s. If Brees can stay healthy, he should be able to break the yardage record in 2018. Keep an eye on the touchdown record for Brees as well, as only Favre and Manning are ahead of him on that list as well.
