No. 1: At this point in his career, Matt Harvey has everyone, including himself, scratching their heads.

For all of the early hype and success surrounding Matt Harvey, his four-year tenure with the Mets has produced a mere 29 wins against 28 losses.

He set a record with 216 innings pitched last year in his comeback from Tommy John surgery. He’s not young anymore, (28 to start 2017) and you have to begin to wonder as he enters what should be his prime years, just who is the real Matt Harvey? Please stand up.

In making a decision about what to do with Harvey, it wouldn’t be so bad if all the Mets had to consider was his on-field performance. That is difficult enough, but when you throw in all of his antics and generally immature behavior during his downtime, things really get complicated.

Some would say he’s got too much potential to just throw him away. But that’s just it—when does potential transfer into performance? Some lean toward the idea of trading him now, or maybe next year around the deadline, when hopefully he’s had 10 or so starts under his belt.

I tend to lean toward the latter.

In all likelihood, the Mets have no real shot at signing Harvey when he reaches free agency in two years.

Tough call for the Mets, no doubt.
