Darian Thompson

The rookie third-round pick out of Boise State was the favorite for the free safety spot next to Landon Collins. In the first game against the Dolphins, he did nothing to hurt that standing.

Thompson and Collins worked very well together in their first game action playing alongside each other. With Thompson playing centerfield, it allows Collins to play to his strengths in the box as a run stopper. Thompson is a playmaking ballhawk and a solid complement to Collins.

The duo will be facing off with Kirk Cousins and a deep group of pass catchers on the Redskins. Will Thompson and Collins be able to have the same success this week as they did last? This will be something to keep an eye on throughout training camp, and the season.

Teams will undoubtedly try to pick on the inexperienced tandem, as safety was a weak spot for the Giants in 2015. It was only one preseason game, but Thompson has quelled some of those concerns. If he has another strong game, the free safety spot next to Collins should be locked up.
