The New York Yankees intentions for a while weren’t fully clear, but now it’s coming into focus as they are serious about rebranding and rebuilding their team.

With the promotion of Tyler Austin, who can play first, third, or right field, and Aaron Judge, who just oozes run production, the New York Yankees are sending a signal that is loud and clear to anyone paying attention. And if there was any doubt as to the direction the front office is bringing this team and franchise, the call-up of these two kids plus the previous addition of Gary Sanchez places a big bullseye in exactly the place where it’s needed.

And the fact that both Austin and Judge hit back to back home runs on their first major league at-bat in another Yankee win (a first in MLB history), serves to only sweeten what is fast becoming a team to watch and follow again.

There’s no doubt either that there’s still a way to go and if deals can be made for players like Chase Headley, Brian McCann, Michael Pineda, and C.C. Sabathia. The Yankees might find it easier to do so now, especially since a good number of the prospects they picked up already are less than a year or no more than two years away from the show.

Indeed, these are heady times for the Yankees. They are 7-3 over their last ten games and they’ve launched themselves as a legitimate wild card contender.

Okay, I get it. Don’t get too giddy here. After all, we’re dealing with kids here who probably won’t know where the team bus is parked after a game to return to the hotel unless someone tells them.

And like Michael Conforto who the Mets sent down again for his second round of “seasoning ” this year, the league and the pitchers may adjust and cause them some serious grief the second time they face them. Except, that’s perhaps the beauty of this. It’s so late in the season that there won’t be a second time.

I know Joe Girardi, I know. You’ll say that you have to “blend ” these kids in with the glue of team- those veterans you are so used to and comfortable with. But, you know what Joe, maybe it’s the exuberance of these kids that’ll wipe some of that glue off that’s sticking to their butt and get ’em going and maybe even looking over their shoulders a little bit more.

And that includes Brett Gardner and especially Jacoby Ellsbury. Both are in the middle of long-term deals and at least Ellsbury should be charged with grand larceny based on the production he’s given the team so far.

In the video that follows, for example, Girardi spins on the “pressure ” young players put on themselves. But doesn’t he get that this is what these kids have lived for their whole lives? Put them out there and let ’em rip………. See for yourself.

So, maybe it’s too much to ask. Girardi is what’s called “old school “. He’s set in his ways and it’s my way or the doorway. Can he adapt? Of course he can. But the question is will he and whether or not he even wants to.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll get a sample of what the kids can do. But it seems even more important at this juncture that we watch and observe how Joe Girardi interfaces with his new talent. Hopefully, Brian Cashman will be taking a close look too. Because more and more, Girardi looks and sounds like he may be better suited for the trash heap too.
