New York Yankees rookies Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge hit back-to-back home runs in their first career at-bats, the first time that has occurred in MLB history.

The New York Yankees youth movement is officially underway. With the trades at the MLB Trade deadline, the Yankees brought in a ton of young talent to help in the near future. Many believed it would torpedo the Yankees’ chances in the near future, namely this season, but they have been able to keep afloat since the trade deadline, going 7-4 in August.

The youngsters will continue seeing playing time for the Yankees, as even more veterans are on the way out. Friday night we saw the Yankees’ career of Alex Rodriguez come to an end, as the two sides reached an agreement for his release. It was quite a sight as Rodriguez smacked an RBI double in his first at-bat, and entered the field in the ninth inning one last time in a Yankees uniform.

Along with Rodriguez leaving last night, the Yankees will be saying goodbye to Mark Teixeira after the season, as he also announced his retirement, effective once the season ends.

More from New York Yankees

As a result, the Yankees are beginning to give more playing time to younger players, as the playing time has opened up. With Rodriguez released, and Carlos Beltran traded to the Texas Rangers, the Yankees have ample opportunities to play their youngsters.

We have gotten a glimpse already of one of their young studs, as Gary Sanchez got his first hits and home run of his MLB career this week, and looks ready to contribute on a full-time basis. On Saturday, it was yet another chance for youngsters to shine.

With the releasing of Rodriguez, the Yankees called up two prospects in Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge. Both could be a part of the Yankees future, and showed why quickly Saturday afternoon.

In his first major league at-bat, Austin hit a home run to the short porch in right field off Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Matt Andriese.

Not to be outdone, Judge came to the plate for his first major league at-bat right after Austin. Just like Austin, Judge would hit a home run. Judge hit an absolute bomb to centerfield, as it was measured at 446 feet.

In the process, the duo made some major league history. They became the first teammates to hit back-to-back home runs in their first career at-bats. That is one way to endear yourself to Yankees fans that don’t want to hear about a rebuild, and make your boss look smart for the moves that he made.

General manager Brian Cashman is probably smiling ear to ear watching some of the young players he stockpiled already paying dividends. The Yankees are hoping they can see more of the same in the final weeks of the season as they look to hang around in the playoff picture in the American League.
