New York Mets

Like the Indians, the Mets were also in the running for Lucroy heading into the trading deadline. They bowed out of the Lucroy sweepstakes, instead focusing on their acquisition of outfielder Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds.

While Bruce will give the Mets some much-needed depth in their lineup, and protection for Yoenis Cespedes, their offense still could use some help. The catcher position has been rather abysmal all season, as Travis d’Arnaud has fallen woefully short of expectations. Veteran Rene Rivera has been solid as the backup, but the Mets could use an upgrade at the position as they teeter on the brink of the playoff picture.

McCann could further lengthen the Mets lineup and help keep them afloat while they wait for Cespedes to return from the disabled list. He is someone the Mets would have for future seasons as well, so he could transition into a backup role as the catcher and first baseman, something the Yankees have been thinking of doing as well.

The price tag could be too much for the Mets, but if the Yankees ate some of the contract, the Mets could become intrigued. It shouldn’t take a huge haul to get McCann away from the Yankees, especially if the Mets are willing to pay more of his remaining contract.
