Cleveland Indians

Prior to the trade deadline on August 1st, the Indians were not shy in their intentions of adding a catcher to their team. They thought they had a deal in place with the Milwaukee Brewers for Jonathan Lucroy, but that deal fell through when Lucroy enacted his no-trade clause.

As a result, the Indians were left without a catching addition, and could now turn their attention to McCann. McCann isn’t the same player that Lucroy is, but McCann would be an upgrade for the Indians from a production standpoint at the plate.

The Indians have gotten no offense from the position this season, as Yan Gomes, Robert Perez or Chris Gimenez. While McCann is batting only .231 on the season, he can still provide some power as he has 15 home runs with 44 RBI.

While he doesn’t provide the defense that Gimenez or Perez provides, the bat he would bring more than makes up for it; Gimenez is the only one of the three batting over .200, and he is barely over the Mendoza-line at .210.

The Yankees and Indians already matched up in a trade this season, as the Yankees traded Miller there for a package of prospects that included outfielder Clint Frazier and pitcher Justus Sheffield. The two teams could do business again if the Yankees get serious about moving McCann.
