Running Back

The Giants running game was a disaster for much of the 2015 season as they went with a running back by committee approach. Rashad Jennings was the lead dog but battled with Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa for early down work. Shane Vereen handled most of the passing game work, but this is a situation to keep an eye on throughout training camp.

The Giants backfield was crowded last season but only got more clouded this offseason. The Giants signed Bobby Rainey as a free agent, and he could factor into special teams as well. Rookie Paul Perkins has the skill set to be an every down back, and should find his way to some touches as the season goes on as well.

This is a situation to watch because no one is truly sure whose decision it was to go with the committee last season and then ditch it as the season came to an end. Once Jennings was the unquestioned lead back, the Giants running game took off. Will that be the approach that McAdoo takes this season, or will he revert back to the committee?

Jennings has a lengthy injury history, making him a difficult person to ride as the bell cow. But, the results are better when he is the main player. It is worth watching to see how the touches are distributed as the Giants have a crowded backfield.
