– Shane Prince

During the 2015-16 season, Shane Prince was an under the radar acquisition for the Islanders at the NHL trade deadline, as they acquired him from the Ottawa Senators. Last season with the Senators, Prince totaled 12 points in 42 games, which made the move to acquire him somewhat uneventful.

The Islanders obviously saw something in Prince from his small sample size with the Senators, as he ended up being a very important player down the stretch for the Islanders last season. In 20 games with the Islanders in the regular season, Prince totaled five points, but it was in the postseason where we saw Prince excel.

In the postseason last year, Prince had a big goal in the Islanders 4-3 overtime win against the Panthers in a very important Game 3 at home with the series tied 1-1. After the Islanders eliminated the Panthers from the playoffs, Prince helped set the tone in Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a two-goal performance.

The postseason production from Prince might indicate that he is ready to breakout in the 2016-17 season, as he should have a steady role on the team next season. Prince offers the Islanders some great quickness on the ice, which seems to be the direction that they are looking to go in.
