New York Mets: 2016 First-Half Awards

After a great comeback from Tommy John surgery last season, Matt Harvey really struggled for the Mets in the first half of the 2016 season. After setting a career-high in innings pitched in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, Harvey was recently diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, and will be out for the rest of the season after surgery.
Prior to the surgery, Harvey was not himself this season. In 2016, Harvey totaled a 4-10 record, 4.86 ERA, and 76 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. It appeared that Harvey was beginning to turn a corner before his final start of the season against the Miami Marlins, as he totaled a 2.83 ERA in June, but sadly his chance to redeem a poor first half won’t happen this season. Harvey will be faced with the challenge of returning from yet another surgery, which is one that is not easy to come back from.
The Mets are now left with a void in their rotation, as Zack Wheeler doesn’t appear to be near returning from his Tommy John surgery. As of now, Logan Verrett has been moved into the starting rotation, but he doesn’t appear to be the answer if the Mets want to catch the Nationals in the NL East.
