New York Mets: 2016 First-Half Awards
By Nick Ziegler
The New York Mets battled through a tough first half of the season to total a 47-41 record. Who are their award winners in the first half of the season?
Injuries have hit the New York Mets very hard in the first half of the season, but the reigning National League Champions are still over .500 at the All-Star break and are well within contention in the National League East.
The long postseason for the Mets was very exciting last season, but it has certainly had its effects on their young rotation. The young Mets rotation has taken some hits this season, as Matt Harvey is out for the rest of the season to fix thoracic outlet syndrome in his throwing shoulder. In addition to Harvey being out for the season, both Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz are pitching through bone spurs in their elbows. The Mets were counting heavily on their rotation to once again be great this season, and there is now some serious concern about them heading into the second half.
Even though the Mets made the postseason last year, their offense was really hard to watch for a long time in 2015. General manager Sandy Alderson made some nice moves before the trade deadline to give the team depth, but this season it looks like déjà vu. Injuries have played a big role in the lineup struggling for big chunks of the first half, but once again the Mets have lacked depth at certain positions in their organization to make up for these injuries.
With the first half of the season over, who are the award winners for the Mets?
