Giving out the award for Least Valuable Player was a difficult decision, but it will be Mark Teixeira who has the honor in the first half of the season. After being an MVP candidate in 2015, Teixeira has been hurt and has played poorly for the Yankees this season.

This season, Teixeira has totaled a .193 batting average, seven home runs, and 20 RBIs. The Yankees really needed Teixeira to stay healthy this season after Greg Bird underwent shoulder surgery prior to the beginning of the season. In addition to lacking depth at first base, the Yankees were also counting on Teixeira to be a powerful force in the middle of the order.

Along with Alex Rodriguez, Teixeira hasn’t done enough in the middle of the lineup to help the Yankees like he did last season. It is easy to see why the Yankees are in the position they are in when you see the statistics of those two players.

This is likely going to be the final season for Teixeira in pinstripes as he is a free agent at the end of the season. With another half of the season to go, Teixeira will be trying to audition for another team next season.
