It has been a disappointing season for a good chunk of the Yankees’ starting rotation, as even though they have avoided injuries, few are pitching well. The pitcher who has arguably struggled the most for the Yankees this season has been Nathan Eovaldi.

After a pretty good season in 2015, Eovaldi was shut down early last season because of arm troubles. Eovaldi was one of the many pitchers in the rotation that had some injury concern heading into the season, but he has been able to avoid any major injury.

Unfortunately for Eovaldi, he has not pitched well this season. In 2016, Eovaldi has totaled a 7-6 record and 5.18 ERA. The lack of success for Eovaldi has actually led to him being demoted to the bullpen, as an 8.65 ERA in the month of June led to the change. Michael Pineda certainly deserves and honorable mention for this award, as he has also pitched really poorly this season with an ERA over 5.00.

If the Yankees are going to make a run in the second half of the season for a playoff spot, they will need Eovaldi to regain his form from earlier in the season. The transition to the bullpen is not an easy one to make for a starting pitcher, but Eovaldi did have a solid outing against the Cleveland Indians in the final game of the first half.
