Pittsburgh Wide Receiver Tyler Boyd

There were rumors leading into the draft that the Giants were interested in Ole Miss Laquon Treadwell with the No.10 overall pick. While that didn’t happen, and would have made little sense given the value and role he would have had on the team, the need is there for a wide receiver.

In the second and third round there is value to be had at the position, and one of the player available would be Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

Boyd was provided outstanding production in Pittsburgh despite a lackluster supporting cast. He is the leading receiver in Pittsburgh history in receptions and yardage with 254 and 3,361. He even chipped in as a running back, gaining 349 yards on 40 carries last season.

That kind of versatility is something the Giants would love, as they need to add playmakers alongside Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants need options in general beyond Beckham Jr., as there is very little in the way of depth behind him.

You do not know what you are going to get from Victor Cruz, while the Giants have done nothing to replace the departed Rueben Randle. Beckham Jr. makes up for the lack of other options with how talented he is, but he could definitely use the help. Boyd could provide that as a solid possession receiver that is not afraid to work the middle of the field.

Boyd is a very competitive player, which fits in with the fire and passion that Beckham Jr. shows as well. He is fearless catching the ball, and has arguably the best ball skills of any receiver in this year’s class. One thing people were frustrated with Randle about was his seeming lack of concentration; that would not happen with Boyd as he had only 10 drops in his career at Pittsburgh and displays strong awareness.

Boyd would be an excellent addition to a Giants offense that struggled mightily when Beckham Jr. was not on the field.
