The New York Giants surprised a lot of people with their selection in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. With the No.10 overall pick, the Giants selected Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple. While Apple has some talent, and the potential to be a No.1 corner, he is very raw and needs some development to reach that potential.

The value also doesn’t match up with the pick, as Apple was projected to be a late first round pick, being mocked in the mid-late 20’s. What will frustrate some people was that the two players that the Giants supposedly coveted the most at No.10, Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin and Georgia linebacker Leonard Floyd, went the two picks before the Giants. What made it even worse was that the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears traded into the spots.

Watching their two targets go right before their pick it seemed as though the Giants were caught off guard and were unable to recover, selecting Apple. What will only add salt to the wound for some Giants fans was that Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and UCLA linebacker Myles Jack were both available despite being consensus top-five players throughout the pre-draft process.

Tunsil and Jack both experienced draft day falls. Tunsil’s off field problems reared their ugly head, as his social media accounts were supposedly hacked. But, his fall was stopped by the Miami Dolphins, who selected him 13th overall.

Jack’s slide can be attributed to the concerns teams have about his knee injury. There are worries that the meniscus injury he suffered last season could lead to more serious microfracture surgery down the road. He has not yet been selected and still remains available.

So the Giants could have a chance to land him in the second round. Will they be able to pass on him again if he is available when they are on the clock in the second round? Or will the Giants look to address other needs, such as offensive line or wide receiver?

We will have to watch and find out. Check out our slideshow of five players that the Giants could target on Day 2 in Round 2 and 3.
