New York Giants News: The Giants will not be bringing back summer sensation Marcus Harris this year, as the exclusive rights free agent will hit the market.

One of the areas that the New York Giants need address this offseason is the wide receiver spot. Odell Beckham Jr. was once again outstanding on the outside in his second NFL season, but the Giants received very little help from anyone else at the spot.

Rueben Randle was a huge letdown opposite Beckham, as he enters free agency in a low note; he is not expected to be brought back with the team. Dwayne Harris was solid when given the chance, but is more of a special teams ace for the Giants, and was forced into duty because Victor Cruz was unable to take the field. With question marks remaining, expect wide receiver to be a position that the Giants are active in pursuing during free agency.

One player we know that will not be helping the Giants next season at wide receiver is Marcus Harris. Harris had been with the Giants since being signed to a future/reserve contract in late December of 2013. His tenure with the Giants has officially come to an end though, as the Giants will not be retaining the exclusive rights free agent this offseason.

Harris looked like he was going to make the Giants roster in 2014, as he was have a magnificent camp. He was someone beat writers were high on, and he had a solid showing in the Hall of Fame game that year, catching four passes for 49 yards. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury as the preseason was winding down, and was placed on IR with an AC Joint injury, ending his season.

Harris was brought back for the 2015 offseason, and once again he was turning heads. Jordan Raanan of NJ.com said that Harris was someone to watch for during training camp, and for good reason. He was expected to battle it out for a spot to help replace Cruz in the slot for the Giants. There was even a Giants assistant coach that went as far as to say that Harris was the best receiver in camp before going down in 2014 with an injury.

But, the injury bug once again hit Harris, this time to his knee. He had arthroscopic knee surgery on top of shoulder and hip surgeries that caused him to miss most of the Giants’ offseason program. He was placed on IR once again, and then underwent micro-fracture surgery on his knee.

Now 27-years old, Harris could find it difficult to latch on with another team. Coming off two seasons ended in the summer by injuries, there will probably not be much of a market for Harris this offseason despite the free agent class at wide receiver being relatively weak this year.
