Jimmer Fredette, Westchester Knicks D-League

The Knicks have a first-hand look at Fredette, as he plays for their NBA D-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. He is a starting guard on the team, and has been outstanding thus far this season, dominating the D-League with averages of 22.6 points, 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. He was named to the D-League All-Star Game, and took home MVP honors with a record high with 35 points.

While he has some shortcomings, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, there is no doubt that he would help the Knicks backcourt with his three-point range. The Knicks currently rank 26th in the NBA at 33.6 percent, as they have a number of players that are capable of knocking down three-pointers, it just does not happen consistently enough.

Fredette was selected by the Knicks in the 2015 D-League Draft, but they do not own his rights; he is free to sign with any team in the NBA, just whenever he is in the D-League he is property of the Knicks. With the NBA Trade Deadline quickly approaching, Fredette should see his phone begin to blow up as teams will start looking to sign players if they miss out on trade targets.

There aren’t very many players that can help a team lacking three-point shooting as much as Fredette could. He has knocked down 42.7 percent of his three-pointers in the D-League this season, and that success plays at the NBA level as well, where he is a career 38 percent shooter.

With an open roster spot, the Knicks have to seriously consider signing Fredette in the coming days before another NBA team comes calling to give him a shot at getting his NBA career going again.
