The New York Knicks have hit the skids recently, as they have lost 10 of their last 11 games. That has dropped the Knicks’ record to 23-32 on the season, as they are now five games out of the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference after being at .500 on January 20th.

Injuries have been a problem for the Knicks in recent weeks, as Carmelo Anthony has battled knee soreness and sprained his ankle when tripping on a referee. Anthony has missed three of those last 11 games, throwing the Knicks in a tailspin as they have been unable to continue building off the chemistry and continuity that was being built throughout the beginning of January.

In addition to the injuries coming at an unfortunate time, the Knicks have also had trouble at the point guard position once again. With the coaching staff not yet being comfortable giving minutes to rookie Jerian Grant on a consistent basis, it has left the Knicks with only one true point guard on the roster in Jose Calderon.

Calderon has his deficiencies on the court, so the lack of another capable option hurts the Knicks at times; if Calderon isn’t knocking down jumpers he is rather useless on the court. The other options the Knicks have are second-year combo guard Langston Galloway and Sasha Vujacic. Galloway is better off the bench and is capable of running the offense, but is not a true point guard. Vujacic has never been a point guard in his career, but the Knicks have been forced to use him because of his knowledge of the triangle offense and being a veteran.

While there are some shortcomings at other positions on the roster, the point guard spot is definitely the one that needs the most attention from Phil Jackson and the front office to upgrade. Can the Knicks upgrade the position this week with the trade deadline looming? Or can they find some help on the free agent market, as they have an open roster spot currently available.

That roster spot can come in handy for making a trade or adding a free agent. Who could the Knicks look to add? Check out our list of five possible targets for the Knicks that they could add via trade or free agency this week.
