3. Amed Rosario, SS

Rosario is simply my number three because of his defensive abilities. It’s the best in the farm system, and possibly the Major League Roster. Not to say he’s lacking with offensive ability, but the 20-year old is clearly recognized for his glove.

In 2015 he spent the year at High-A St. Lucie and at AA Binghamton, where he hit .253 with five triples, 13 stolen bases, and an OBP of .302 in 105 games. Those numbers were right around the league average mark, but he was the youngest player in the league so there’s plenty to look forward to.

Rosario’s defense at short has impressed scouts since he was signed as an international free agent in 2012. He has a strong arm and it allows him to make all the throws he needs to. The most impressive aspect of his defense is how he makes plays look routine with his smooth movement and excellent footwork. His range is considered above average despite possessing average speed.

Everyone constantly compares Rosario to Cecchini, but his bat isn’t quite there yet. I expect Rosario to spend the majority of 2016 in AA-Binghamton. It will be a tall task for him, since he’s trying to develop his bat and he’ll probably be the youngest player in the league again.

I’m not so confident that his bat will breakout this season, but I also don’t think he will be over-matched by the pitching. There is a strong possibility that Rosario is major league ready in the near future, there is all-star upside here if the bat develops to its potential.
