Player Of The Game: Derrick Williams

Derrick Williams has seen his role fluctuate a bit this season off the Knicks bench. He started the season hot, but saw himself out of the rotation at times. He has gotten back into the rotation recently, and things have started clicking once again. Tonight against the 76ers, Williams showcased the explosiveness the Knicks hoped to see when they signed him.

Williams scored 17 points off the bench in 22 minutes, knocking down 7-of-11 from the field overall, 1-of-3 from deep and 2-of-4 from the foul line. The second he stepped on the court he brought energy to the game, scoring in bunches and showing off his athleticism. It was on full display on this alley-oop dunk from Langston Galloway.

Williams got the Knicks’ bench off their feet and really jump started things in the second quarter for the team. That rode that momentum into halftime, as that dunk put them up 16 and they finished the half up 21.

Williams also added three rebounds and one steal, but his biggest impact for the Knicks comes in the scoring department. If he can consistently score between 12-15 points for this team off the bench, it will be a huge asset going forwards this season.
