Matchup Of The Game Recap

In our keys to the game prior to tipoff, we highlighted the matchup between Carmelo Anthony and Robert Covington as the one to watch. It didn’t quite live up to the hype tonight, as the Knicks didn’t need much from Anthony, and Covington had an off game.

Anthony played only 28 minutes, scoring 16 points on 4-of-14 from the field. He made a living at the foul line, going 8-of-9 at the charity stripe. He did all his scoring in the first half, getting a chance to rest most of the second half with the big lead that the Knicks built up. He also added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in a quiet night.

Covington had a quiet night as well, only playing 16 minutes. He didn’t do much in those 16 minutes, scoring only three points, as he went 1-of-5 overall and 1-of-4 from deep. This ended a streak of four consecutive games with double-digit points, and was his lowest scoring output of the season. He added four rebounds and one assist to round out his stat line.

Both of these players had an off night, as the lopsided score probably had something to do with it. They should have brighter days ahead in terms of statistical output.
