New York Jets: Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall Tie NFL Record

The New York Jets are in the middle of the playoff race in the AFC this season behind a surprisingly good offense in 2015.

Coming into the 2015 season, the Jets were thought to be built around having a strong running game on the offensive side of the ball to compliment a defense that has a lot of talent. The running game has been great at times for the Jets this season, but consistency has been an issue on the ground this season.

The Jets’ passing offense hasn’t been that great in the past number of seasons, as neither Mark Sanchez nor Geno Smith led prolific passing offenses during their time as starters. The trade for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the addition of Chan Gailey as the offensive coordinator in New York has changed the culture, as they Jets have taken the identity of being a pass-first offense.

One main difference that the Jets offense has this season coming to years past is that they have a dynamic combination at wide receiver with Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall. The Jets signed Decker last season to help improve the passing offense, but injuries really derailed his first season with the Jets.

This offseason, the Jets robbed the Chicago Bears in a trade for Marshall to give them an elite wide receiver. Marshall is having a great first season with the Jets, as he has totaled 89 receptions, 1,187 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns.

Decker has also played excellent for the Jets this season, as he has totaled 66 receptions, 875 receiving yards, and nine receiving touchdowns.

The combination of Decker and Marshall may not have been given the recognition they deserve yet this season, as they have tied an NFL record with fellow wide receivers Chris Carter and Randy Moss.

In the win against the Tennessee Titans, Decker and Marshall each caught a touchdown pass in the game, which was the seventh game this season that they have accomplished that. Moss and Carter set the NFL record in the 1998 season when the Minnesota Vikings were 15-1 and made the NFC Championship Game.

The Jets’ dynamic duo will have a great opportunity to break the record set by Moss and Carter in 1998, as they will have three games left this season. The Jets will be playing the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills in the next three weeks, and with the playoffs on the line, winning is key.

It would be great to see Decker and Marshall break the NFL record, but it would be even better to see the Jets match the team success of the Vikings in the record-setting 1998 season.
