New York Jets Continue Playoff Push With Defeat Of Tennessee Titans

The New York Jets were able to defeat the Tennessee Titans with ease, continuing their push towards a playoff berth in the AFC.

The New York Jets continued their march towards the postseason yesterday in their defeat of the Tennessee Titans. They were able to dismantle the Titans 30-8 as they moved their record to 8-5 on the season to hold onto sixth place and the second wild card spot in the AFC.

It was a big win for the Jets, as their two biggest competitors for a playoff spot in the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers both won as well to move to 8-5. The Jets will need some help to get into the postseason, but the first order of business is winning their own games and that is exactly what they did against the Titans.

They got on the Titans early, scoring a touchdown on the first possession of the game. They continued building off of that, as they missed a field goal on their next possession but Randy Bullock connected on his second chance to stake the Jets to a 10-0 lead by the time the first quarter ended.

They just kept piling it on in the second quarter, as they would score another 17 points while holding the Titans scoreless. Ryan Fitzpatrick was on fire, as he threw two touchdown passes in that second quarter, and three in the first half overall.

He connected with Eric Decker in the first quarter then Bilal Powell and Brandon Marshall in the second. Both the second quarter touchdowns were scored as much because of Titan mess ups as Jets success; Powell broke multiple tackles on his run to the end zone, while Marshall was left unguarded as the Titans defense was not ready for the play.

Fitzpatrick had a strong afternoon overall, completing 21-of-36 for 263 yards and three touchdowns, most of which came in the first half. This is the third straight game for Fitzpatrick with multiple touchdowns and no interceptions, as he has the Jets offense rolling right now on their three-game winning streak.

Marshall and Decker have given Fitzpatrick serious weapons on the outside and they terrorized the Titans all afternoon. Marshall finished with six receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown, while Decker added seven receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown. Powell had five receptions for 46 yards and one touchdown, as that was basically all of the damage done receiving the ball. No other player had multiple receptions in the game.

The defense was also strong and looked more like the dominant unit they thought they had coming into the season. With Darrelle Revis back in the lineup, the Jets defensive unit looked much stronger than it did in past weeks. They held the Titans to 24 yards on 13 carries and were able to contain the electric rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The only touchdown the Titans had come on a trick play, as running back Antonio Andrews lined up in the wild cat and threw a touchdown to Mariota. Outside of that, the Titans offense was unable to get anything going throughout the afternoon, gaining only 292 yards and 15 first downs in the game.

The Jets will look to carry this momentum into Week 15 when they travel to take on the free falling Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night. It is another game the Jets should win as they really control their own destiny at this point if they want to make the postseason.
