New York Giants Nearing Deal With Jason Pierre-Paul?
The New York Giants are sitting at 4-3 on the season and in first place in the NFC East. One thing they are sorely lacking is a legitimate pass rushing threat, something that is not readily available. Well, the Giants may be getting lucky and getting one, as multiple reports are saying that the Giants and Pierre-Paul are nearing a deal.
The Giants and Pierre-Paul have been in a stalemate since the Fourth of July fireworks incident that resulted in Pierre-Paul losing his right index finger and parts of two other fingers and the hand as well. Since then the relationship between the two parties has been frosty at best.
Pierre-Paul didn’t allow Giants officials to see him while in the hospital, stemming from his back injury in 2013. Things didn’t get better during the first meeting they had in early September, as Pierre-Paul showed up wanting to play but the Giants were not comfortable with how injured the hand was.

Things seem to have turned, as the most recent meeting has gone much better. According to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York, the Giants are much more comfortable with the condition of Pierre-Paul’s hand this time around. The seven more weeks of recovery much have done wonders for Pierre-Paul, as the idea of a contract being worked out didn’t come close to happening the last time around. But, that is exactly what seems to be happening this time.
If contract numbers are being tossed around, that is an encouraging sign for Pierre-Paul returning to the field. Just last week it seemed grim that he would take the field this season, but things seem to have turned with a positive physical exam today.
While the Giants need Pierre-Paul back because of his pass rushing expertise, there is still an issue with how the hand will affect his play. Because of that, the Giants do not want to give him the prorated amount of the franchise tag tender, as they do not know if he is a franchise player any longer. But, there seems like a resolution can come in that area as well.
According to FOX Sports, Pierre-Paul and the Giants are on the verge of agreeing to a contract that is for less than the franchise tender. It looks as if what the Giants wanted, the lesser contract, will be coming to fruition. They will pay Pierre-Paul less, but he can earn some of the money back through incentives.

It is a win-win for each side if this does happen Tuesday. The Giant need Pierre-Paul back on the field if they want to take that next step, and Pierre-Paul needs a stage to show that he is healthy so that he can try and cash in next offseason on a new contract.
It is nice to see the two sides come to an agreement, putting aside their egos and agreeing to something that will benefit both sides.
