New York Giants Rumors: A meeting with Jason Pierre-Paul is supposedly scheduled for Tuesday; does that mean the two sides are closing in on a contract resolution? We wouldn’t be too sure about that.

Could the stalemate between the New York Giants and Jason Pierre-Paul be coming to an end? Last time we discussed this, an article was published discussing if it was time for the Giants to move on from Pierre-Paul, as there was a meeting to be held in the future. We did not know when that meeting would be, but we know have a rumored time.

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York, his sources say that Pierre-Paul is slated to meet with the Giants on Tuesday. He will meet team doctors and officials to have his right hand examined again by the team. This will be the first time that the Giants and Pierre-Paul meet since their first meeting leading up to the season on September 7th.

The original plan was for Pierre-Paul to fly into New Jersey last week to meet with the Giants, but with the team playing on the road on Monday night, nothing could be worked out. There is always a chance that the Giants postpone the meeting again, but for now, it is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Pierre-Paul is hoping that the Giants clear him to play this time around, as it did not go so well during the first visit.

Pierre-Paul showed up to Giants’ headquarter on September 7th deeming himself ready to play. He had just received skin grafts on the middle finger of his right hand, the hand that was injured during his Fourth of July firework accident. He was hoping the team could find a way to protect the injured hand, with a cast or club of some sort, but the Giants deemed him not ready to play.

A driving factor in all of this is money. The Giants hold all the cards here, and they will not give in easily. They can hold Pierre-Paul’s rights for next season if they place him on the Non-Football Injury List, ending his season and now owing him a penny. That option is more likely to happen than the Giants giving Pierre-Paul the prorated amount of the franchise tag, which was $14.813 million for the full season. The Giants were not willing, and rightfully so, to give that kind of money to a player that may not be able to perform up to his previous level.

Last time around, the Giants brought up the idea of giving him lesser money. That was not something Pierre-Paul was interested in at the time, but maybe he has come around. If he wants to make anything of this season earnings wise, and prove that he is healthy enough to play, that may be his only option. The Giants are not going to put him out there just so that he can earn a paycheck, as they have games to win. They cannot afford to experiment with Pierre-Paul and see what he is capable of doing at this point in the season.

At this point, agreeing to a lesser contract seems to be the only way for Pierre-Paul to get back on the field. If his hand looks better this time after seven more weeks of time to heal, the Giants could be more inclined to bring him back.

But at the root of all this is money. If Pierre-Paul isn’t willing to haggle and give in some to the Giants, he runs a very serious risk of not playing a down this season and putting his future not only with the Giants but as an NFL player in serious doubt.
