The New York Giants were able to pick up a hard fought victory over their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys Sunday afternoon, 27-20. It was a huge win for the Giants, who are now back in sole possession of first place in the division after the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys, meanwhile, fall into last place.
The Giants were able to take advantage of the miscues the Cowboys had, scoring a majority of their points off Cowboy turnovers or mistakes made in certain areas. Winning the turnover battle was key, as the Giants committed none, while the Cowboys committed four.
In the process, the Giants snapped a couple of Cowboys streaks, the first one being their recent dominance over the Giants. The Cowboys had won five straight games over Big Blue before Sunday afternoon’s defeat. It was the first win for the Giants against the Cowboys since 2012, coincidentally also the last time they were over .500 this late into the season. The Cowboys winning streak in NFC East road games was also snapped at seven, as the Cowboys are reeling without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant to lead the offense.

The victory was also the 100th of Tom Coughlin’s career, as he continues to add to his impressive coaching resume. It will be one that he and the Giants can be proud of, as they were able to get over the hump against a team they have come up short against continually in recent matchups and did it without being perfect in every aspect of the game.
It is a win that they can enjoy, but there is still much work to be done. They have a meeting in the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints next week, a place that is never easy to win in that will start a two-game road trip for the Giants.
Before we start covering that game though, let’s take a little more in depth of a look at the Giants victory over the Cowboys. Check out our slideshow as we hand out team grades for the Giants.
