The New York Jets are coming off their bye week after defeating the Miami Dolphins in London Week 4. With that victory, the Jets ran their record to 3-1 on the season, making them one of the better teams in the NFL during the first quarter of the season.
The offseason moves that the organization made, starting with an overhaul of the front office and coaching staff has paid immediate dividends. The combination of new head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan has been a positive one thus far. The moves that Maccagnan made during the NFL Draft and in free agency are being put to good use by Bowles and his staff as they have looked good overall and excellent in some areas.

The Jets have picked up some nice wins thus far in the season, defeating the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts on the road and Dolphins in London. Their only loss of the season came against the Philadelphia Eagles Week 3 when they were without two main offensive pieces in Eric Decker and Chris Ivory.
The offense hasn’t been world beaters, but they are getting the job done with the backing of a dominant defense. That was one thing the Jets were hoping wouldn’t change with the coaching regime turnover, and thus far it hasn’t. Bowles has kept the Jets defense near the top of all statistical categories as they have one of the more dominant units in the NFL.
The Jets first quarter win-loss record may surprise some people, but they caught teams like the Colts at a good time. The second quarter of the season is arguably easier than the first, with only a matchup against the New England Patriots really being a problem for the Jets.
Will the second quarter of the season go as well as the first for the Jets? We will have to watch and find out. Before that though, let’s take a look at the first quarter season grades for the Jets.
