Monday marked the beginning of the 2015-16 season for the New York Knicks, as the team took part in media day. It was the first time we will get to see all of the players, new and old, in one place as we are on the eve of training camp.

There is a new aura around the team, as Carmelo Anthony says he is healthy and ready go to after battling a number of nagging injuries last season. He underwent surgery for his left knee shortly after the All-Star break, but is ready to go and has no restrictions heading into training camp.

That is good, as he will need as much practice time as possible to gel with his new teammates. Of the 19 players that the Knicks will have at training camp, only six appeared in games with the Knicks last season. In addition to Anthony, the Knicks will be having Jose Calderon coming back from injury, Langston Galloway, Lance Thomas, Louis Amundson and Cleanthony Early.

There will be plenty of new faces in camp this season, including Derrick Williams, one of the free agent acquisitions for the Knicks this summer.

Williams is one a number of players that the Knicks are hoping for contributions from that they added in free agency. In addition to him, the Knicks are hoping that Robin Lopez, Arron Afflalo, Kyle O’Quinn and Kevin Seraphin can help bolster a team that had a franchise worst 17 victories last season.

The Knicks will also have some youngsters to keep an eye on. They brought aboard Thanasis Antetokounmpo, a second round pick from 2014, to go along with 2015 No.4 overall pick Kristaps Porzingis and No.19 overall Jerian Grant. All three are hoping to bring a youth and talent infusion to a Knicks team that has lacked that in recent seasons.

Like the beginning of every season, there is some optimism surrounding this Knicks team. They look poised to have a bounce back season after a tough 2015-16 campaign, and training camp will be the first place to see that process begin.
