1.) John Tavares

Easily the best player of last season for the Islanders was their captain John Tavares. After having his 2013-14 season cut short by a knee injury, Tavares came back with a vengeance last season and had a career-year.

The Islanders’ captain totaled 86 points with 38 goals and 48 assists. The 86 points placed Tavares only behind Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars, and his 38 goals were fourth-best in the NHL.

Wearing the ‘C’ on your jersey comes with a lot of responsibility to perform in big moments, and Tavares did that last season with eight game-winning goals. The future is so bright for Tavares, but there is still a lot to accomplish for Tavares in the postseason.
