The Jets pass defense was without one of its best players as Sheldon Richardson serves his suspension, but it didn’t matter against the Browns. The Jets were able to defend the pass well throughout the afternoon and get pressure on the quarterback.

They defended receivers so well with Josh McCown on the field, he had to scramble multiple times. The last time resulted in a fumble and concussion, as McCown was forced out of the game. Before being forced out McCown was unable to really get anything going, completing 5-of-8 passes for 49 yards. In his place Johnny Manziel came in, and it looked like the Jets would have their hands full.

Manziel dropped a 54-yard pass to Travis Benjamin to get the scoring started on the afternoon, as he woke up a dormant Browns offense. That was about it for his success through the air though, as he made more plays with his legs than his arm. Manziel would finish the game 13-for-24 with 182 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The Jets were also able to get good pressure throughout the game. They sacked Manziel three times and forced him to fumble twice. They also had three pass deflections and three quarterback hits as they got into the Browns backfield with relative ease.

It was a strong showing for the Jets new look secondary. Even more encouraging was seeing youngsters like Marcus Williams step up; he replaced Cromartie after he was injured, intercepting a pass and recording all three Jets pass deflections.
