The Browns were the worst team defending the run in 2014, giving up 141.6 yards per game. Well, it looks like they may be at the bottom of the barrel once again in 2015, as the Jets ran the ball at will against the Browns all afternoon. After a slow start, the Jets got it going with the ground game.

Chris Ivory led the way, rushing for 91 yards on 20 carries. He had a long of 19 yards, as he churned out positive gain after positive gain. He also pounded in two scores from 10-yards out and three yards out. He has a clear stranglehold on early down work, and the only reason he didn’t get more was because the Jets decided to give Bilal Powell some work.

Powell, who is the third down back, got some work as the lead back near the end of the game. With the game in hand, the Jets decided to use Powell as their lead back, and he succeeded as much as Ivory did. Powell got 12 carries for 62 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He didn’t have much work in the passing game, so it was nice to see him get some work as the lead back. Powell caught only two passes for 16 yards as the Jets gameplan was clearly to run the ball as their first, second and third option.

If not for Fitzpatrick and Tommy Bohanon getting four rushes for one yard, the Jets team averages would have been better. On the afternoon, they ran the ball 36 times for 154 yards as the Jets ran the ball at will against the Browns overmatched front seven.
