It wasn’t the best looking football game, but the New York Giants were still able to pull out their first victory of the preseason over the Jacksonville Jaguars, winning 22-12. It was a field goal fest as both teams offenses struggled to get much momentum, and the chemistry just wasn’t there.

For the Giants, the injuries once again devastated them, as two more safeties, Bennett Jackson and Justin Currie, were lost to what looks like serious injuries. Jon Beason was also forced from the game with a sprained knee, and Mark Herzlich suffered a concussion as the injuries are really beginning to mount for the Giants. Already extremely short at defensive back, the Giants couldn’t afford to lose more players tonight and they did. Beason is virtually irreplaceable in the middle of the Giants defense, and if he misses time again the unit will fall apart.

But, with those players out of the game, it meant more playing time for other players. Some of them took advantage of the extra reps, turning in good performances. But, there were also a couple of players that were off their game, putting up duds.

While there is still plenty of work to be done for the Giants, there were some highlights to take away from tonight in addition to the bad. Check out our studs and duds for the Giants from their preseason Week 2 victory over the Jaguars.

Damontre Moore: Stud

The Giants have been grooming the former Texas A&M product for an expanded role. He had yet been able to show the consistency they wanted to bookend Jason Pierre-Paul, but with him still not in camp after a Fourth of July fireworks incident, there are reps to be had. Could this be the chance that Moore needed to break through?

Against the Jaguars, Moore was a menace. He recorded five total tackles, two sacks and one more tackle for a loss. He also recorded two quarterback hits, as he was constantly in the Jaguars backfield causing problems.

With Pierre-Paul’s return without a timetable, the Giants desperately need someone to step up along the defensive line to be a pass rushing presence. Moore has the ability to do so, but has lacked the consistency or discipline to play a full time role. That looks to be changing a bit this preseason, as Moore looks to finally be putting things together as he enters his third season in the NFL.

Moore has a chance to take a stranglehold on a starting spot, and if he continues playing like he did Saturday night he will get all the playing time that he can handle.
