– Eovaldi rising to the occasion

After a difficult start to the season, Nathan Eovaldi is pitching excellent over the course of the last month for the Yankees. In July, Eovaldi had his best month of the season with a 3.09 ERA. The main complaint with Eovaldi’s pitching of late has been that he hasn’t gone deep into games. Last month, Eovaldi made it past the sixth inning just once against the Minnesota Twins.

In Yankee Stadium, Eovaldi figured to be in trouble against the talented Blue Jays’ lineup, but instead he had one of his best games of the season.

Against the Blue Jays, Eovaldi pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just one run, five hits, and two walks.

With Michael Pineda out until September, the Yankees need a starting pitcher to step up. Eovaldi seems like the most likely Yankee to do so at this time. Eovaldi’s splitter has been the main reason for the turnaround, and the Yankees will hope that he can sustain this recent string of success.
