24. Seattle Mariners (48-58) The Mariners were busy at the deadline, trading away former top pick Dustin Ackley, Mark Lowe and J.A. Happ. While it may be too little too late for the Mariners to get on track, they have the talent to go on a run. Robinson Cano has finally woken up at the plate, raising his slash line on the season to .260/.305/.408 thanks to a hot July when he slashed .337/.398/.622, smashing seven of his 11 home runs on the season. On the mound, Hisashi Iwakuma has also got things going since coming off the DL behind Felix Hernandez.

23. Oakland Athletics (47-59) If the Athletics needed anymore evidence that selling was their way to go this season, losing seven of their last 10 games certainly did it for them. They traded away Scott Kazmir, Ben Zobrist and Ryan Cook, acquiring only Felix Doubront from the Cubs, who needed to make room for the players they acquired. But, even with the worst record on the AL, the Athletics are only eight games out of a Wild Card spot. It would take a huge turn of luck to make up that kind of ground, but there are still reasons to turn into the Athletics, such as Cy Young candidate Sonny Gray.

22. Cincinnati Reds (47-56) The Reds were one of the more active teams at the trade deadline, as they had plenty of pieces to move. They traded free agents to be Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake, getting back a number of power arms. They held onto valuable players such as Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier and Aroldis Chapman as the Reds rebuild should not be a long one. The players they received in the Cueto and Leake trades should be able to help as soon as next season to get this team back on track. They cannot be taken lightly this season either, as they showed they are still capable of pulling out a couple wins, going 4-3 against the Cardinals and Pirates this past week.
