We have known Jason Pierre-Paul to always be an explosive player in the figurative sense; however as of recent he has taken that term literally as he blew off his finger with fireworks.

The fact of him losing a finger is old news and so are the endless comments from those that think he lacks intelligence along with his right index finger. However, we have yet to think about what this does for both JPP as a player, and what the future of the New York Giants will be with or maybe without him.

In regards to JPP’s resume, he is one of the best in the NFL, that can’t be questioned. However, what he has done is in his past, back when he was playing with 10 fingers may be very different now. Sports analysts and medical professionals are unsure of his future playing ability.

Medically speaking, JPP has lost 1/5th of his hand with his injury ans his ability to grab has been lowered by 25-percent. At his position he is asked to bring quarterbacks and ball carriers down. Trying to grab a jersey let alone anything with four fingers is tough. Many of those reading this most likely tried to grab something on their own to see, yep it is way harder. Paul will still be able to play at a high level, it comes with training yourself and making the muscles and capabilities he does have stronger.

The New York Giants recently got back the golden defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo, the man that transitioned bench riding players into starting linebackers, such as former Giants Mathias Kiwanuka Maybe working with JPP and entertaining the idea of moving him to defensive tackle where he is asked more to close on gaps rather than hunt down those with the ball, could make things work. Granted he will have to eat more and put on size, but that is something small to a GIANT.

As for the Giants, they have a decision to make, do they spend upwards of 60-million dollars to player who literally can’t even sign a contract right now? Or do they let him go and have another team deal with the off the field headache.

The Giants have had a recent trend of players that seem to end their career or time with the big blue too soon with Plaxico Burress shooting himself and David Wilson removing himself from the game being one hit away from paralysis.

A decision for all of this will be made soon, Giants fans and JPP himself wish he would of made better decisions on his own.
