New York Giants News: The 2015 Preseason Schedule Has Been Released; Who Will The Giants Be Taking On?

On Thursday the NFL released the 2015 Preseason schedule. The New York Giants will avoid the NFL Hall of Fame Game and the extra preseason game, playing only four this year.

The Giants will open the preseason on the road, taking on the Cincinnati Bengals. This will be the fourth time that the Giants and Bengals meet in the preseason, and the first time since 1998. The Giants have had a lot of success against the Bengals in the preseason, winning all three of the previous meetings. This one could get ugly, but it will be the first chance to see the Giants newly signed players and rookies in action. They may not play too much, but it will be fun to see them in Giants’ blue for the first time.

Next up for the Giants will be a visit from the Tom Coughlin’s former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. This will be the first matchup between the two in the preseason since the 2012 season, when the Giants traveled to Jacksonville. The two teams faced off this past regular season, as the Jaguars mounted an impressive come from behind win to defeat the Giants 25-24.

This will be the eighth time that the Jaguars and Giants meet up in the preseason, and Coughlin has been a part of every one. He was head coach for the Jaguars for a majority of them, as they faced off every summer from 1996-2001.

In Week 3 the Giants and New York Jets will renew their preseason rivalry for the 47th consecutive season. This season the preseason game will be a preview, as the two will play for real during the regular season. Hopefully no players get hurt this season, as the matchup between the Jets and Giants has seen a number of players suffer serious injuries. Most recently, Mark Sanchez and Stevie Brown were lost for the season when the two teams matched up in 2013.

The final preseason game of the season for the Giants will once again come against the New England Patriots. The Giants will be visiting the defending Super Bowl champs in a game that has become an annual thing. This will be the 11th straight season that the Giants and Patriots conclude the preseason against each other. Again, this will be a preview of a regular season matchup, as the Giants will be hosting the Patriots as well during the 2015 regular season.

Oddly enough, this is the third consecutive season that the Giants will be facing off against only AFC opponents. The Giants two home games during the preseason will be sandwiched by their away games; this is nice for the fans, as the starters and regulars usually play the most in the second and third games of the preseason, which are the two the Giants will be playing at MetLife Stadium.
