New York Jets Recap: Jets Lose Heartbreaker 27 – 25
By Kyle Nuss
Just heartbreaking.
The New York Jets lost a heart breaker in New England, losing to the Patriots 27 – 25 on a last second blocked field goal.
The Patriots got on the board first, scoring on a 49 yard wide open pass to Shane Vereen to take the 7 – 0 lead.
The Jets would then drive down the field, taking 7 minutes off the clock, and if not for a penalty on Oday Aboushi, the Jets would of tied the game but instead the Jets settle for a Nick Folk 22-yard field goal to make it 7 – 3.
After a three and out, the Jets were able to compose another successful drive, driving 46 yards to the Patriots 29 setting up for another Folk 47-yard field goal, making the score 7 – 6.
With the Patriots striking out with another three and out, the Jets were given the ball on their own 40, composing another drive that ended in a field goal. This time a 46-yard field goal, giving the Jets their first lead of the game at the 7:57 mark of the 2nd quarter, leading 9 – 7.
That lead wouldn’t last long.
The Patriots, in ten plays, drove down the field for three-yard touchdown from Tom Brady to Vereen giving the 14 – 9 lead right back to the Patriots.
Both teams would both get one more field goal before the half. Folk would kick a 27-yard field goal to make it 14 – 12. The Patriots, with the help of a horrible pass interference call on Antonio Allen, were able to get into good field position giving Rob Gostkowski a 39 yard field goal, making it 17 – 12 at half.
The Jets continued their amazing offensive performance but instead of getting down to the red zone and settling for a field goal, the Jets actually scored a touchdown. The Jets continued their progressive drives, starting from their own 20-yard line and ending with a Chris Ivory touchdown. Ivory ran for a one-yard touchdown to give the Jets a 19 – 17 lead.

There wasn’t much action until midway through the 4th quarter, Brady hits Danny Amendola for a 19-yard touchdown, giving the Patriots a 27 – 19 lead. Give credit to Amendola, that was a great catch.
With time running out, the Jets got the ball back with 7:49 to go in the fourth quarter on their own 14, the Jets got the ball down to set up for Smith throwing a 10-yard touchdown to Jeff Cumberland. The Jets failed to get the two-point conversion and resorted to an onside kick which the Jets failed to get. Then the most surprising thing happened. The Patriots ran the ball three times, resulting for a total of one yard, giving the Jets the ball back with 1:06 at their own 12-yard line.
Geno Smith was able to make 2 short passes to Chris Johnson, a short pass to David Nelson, Jeremy Kerley, and Chris Ivory getting the ball to the Patriots 40-yard line, setting up for the potential game winning field goal. Folk came out to attempt the 58-yard field goal to close the upset, but the kick was blocked. The Patriots blocked the field goal, winning the game, crushing hope of all Jets fans, in a stunning way.
