The New York Knicks lost to the crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets on Sunday evening at the Barclays Center.

The tank is on with the New York Knicks. They suffered yet another loss on Sunday evening, falling to the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center. This would normally be a loss of epic proportions, but with their first round pick in hand, the Knicks aren’t hurt at all by this loss.

But, that does not make it any less embarrassing. The Nets have been playing horrible basketball all season, just wrapping up a 2-6 road trip. During that road trip, they snapped a 16-game losing streak; tonight against the Knicks they snapped another one.

The Nets had lost 16 straight games at Barclays Center entering tonight. They had no won at home since December 26th, being the only team in the NBA to not win a home game in 2017. Returning home for the first time since February 15th, and the Nets were able to snap that streak.

A big reason for ending their losing streak was their hot start. Brooklyn led by 15 at the end of the first quarter, continuing the Knicks struggles to start the game. They led by 18 at half time in large part because of their shooting from deep.

More from New York Knicks

The Nets set a franchise record with 14 three-pointers made in the first half. Brook Lopez led the way, making all five of his attempts in the first half. Brooklyn would light it up from deep all game, as they made 18-of-36 from beyond the arc.

They slowed down in the second half, allowing the Knicks back into the game. New York, who trailed by as many as 22, cut it to as few as five in the second half but were unable to get any closer.

The Knicks struggles defensively continued as the Nets got whatever they wanted offensively. It is a loss that stung at the time but will help the Knicks in the long run as they continue sinking down the standings.

Three Stars

PF Kristaps Porzingis, Knicks — Porzingis had a solid game for the Knicks on both ends of the court. He shot the ball well, scoring 19 points on 7-of-16 from the field, making 2-of-6 from deep and 3-of-4 from the foul line. He also added 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. He also added five blocks in 34 minutes but fouled out for the sixth time this season.

SF Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Nets — Hollis-Jefferson had his hands full trying to slow down Carmelo Anthony. While Anthony had a strong fourth quarter, he struggled overall, making only 10-of-26 from the field; part of those struggles has to be credited to Hollis-Jefferson’s defense. He also chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. He added one block as well.

F Lance Thomas, Knicks — The Knicks have missed Thomas’ versatility this season. Tonight he showcased that versatility. He was the best player off the bench for the Knicks tonight, playing 32 minutes and filling numerous roles. He scored 13 points, providing a surprise scoring punch off the bench. He added five rebounds, four assists, and one block as well.
