The New York Giants and the rest of the NFL will get started on free agency this afternoon. At noon the NFL’s legal tampering period begins, which means teams can talk to prospective unrestricted free agents.

The Giants aced this part of free agency last season. With a ton of money to spend, Jerry Reese handed out some huge contracts. Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison were signed to improve the defensive line and Janoris Jenkins bolstered the defensive backfield. Reese also retained Jason Pierre-Paul and found value in players such as Keenan Robinson.

The Giants defense improved dramatically from 2015 to 2016. The Giants defense was embarrassingly poor in 2015 but became one of the stronger units in 2016. Can Reese reload the offense in the same fashion this offseason?

Reese will not have as much money to spend, but there are some needs on the offensive side of the ball. The offense was poor in 2016, but nowhere near as poor as the defense was in 2015. There are pieces of the offense that are solid, starting with Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and Sterling Shepard.

But, those guys will need some help. The offensive line, tight end, and wide receiver could all use some help heading into the 2017 offseason. Can Reese fill any of those holes and ace free agency for the second season in a row? Signing these five players would give the Giants another great offseason grade.
