ESPN’s NFL Nation made predictions for the 2017 NFL offseason and they make a prediction on how the New York Jets will address their quarterback situation.

The New York Jets have a long to-do list for the 2017 offseason. They need to rebuild the foundation as things crumbled in the second year under general manager Mike Maccaganan and head coach Todd Bowles. The biggest problem for the Jets, like many teams in the NFL, is their quarterback.

The Jets had a strong 2015 with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, but that proved to be a fluke. Fitzpatrick crashed back to Earth in 2016 and was one of the reasons for the team struggling so much. Fitzpatrick’s contract was voided days after the Super Bowl, so the Jets will be looking for a new quarterback.

Is that quarterback on the roster? Right now the Jets only have Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg under contract; Geno Smith is also a free agent. That would seem to make quarterback a pressing issue for the Jets this offseason.

There is no question the Jets will add a quarterback at some point this offseason. Do they believe that Petty or Hackenberg will be the long-term answer? Or will they look to take a quarterback at the top of the draft? ESPN’s NFL Nation offered offseason predictions and the one for the Jets revolved around the quarterback spot.

More from New York Jets

Rich Cimini predicts that the Jets will add a quarterback this offseason, but it won’t be with the No.6 overall pick. Cimini believes the Jets will instead add a veteran quarterback in free agency. Here is what Cimini predicted.

"Instead of splurging for an aging quarterback with durability issues (see: Tony Romo, Jay Cutler), they will opt for a younger player with some upside — Mike Glennon, the former Bucs backup. The Jets need somebody because Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg aren’t ready to take over in 2017. The concern: They can’t overpay Glennon and get stuck in a Brock Osweiler situation."

The Jets reportedly have their eyes on Glennon, putting him squarely in the picture for 2017. As Cimini notes, the price for Glennon could be too much for the Jets liking. While he has more playing experience than Osweiler did, the disaster that Osweiler has turned into in Houston will deter some teams.

The quarterback market is rather bare this season from a prospects and free agent standpoint. If the Jets want to buy some time with a bridge quarterback they should look into someone such as Brian Hoyer. Hoyer has proven to be a capable starter in the past and would not break the Jets bank. He would also provide them some more time to evaluate and work with Petty and Hackenberg.

Quarterback is probably the biggest question mark for the Jets right now. How they address it during the offseason will go a long way in determining their success for the 2017 season. But, quarterback is far from the only question mark for the Jets this season.
