The New York Knicks picked up an impressive victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.

106. 18. 117. 27. Final

The New York Knicks came into tonight’s game against the Boston Celtics very shorthanded. They were without two starters in Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah, and Lance Thomas was sidelined as well.

It ended up not mattering much, as the Knicks left TD Garden with an impressive victory. The Celtics had won seven consecutive games at home coming into the game and drop to 13-7 at home. The Knicks improve to 7-15 away from Madison Square Garden and exact some revenge on the Celtics, who had won the first two meetings of the season.

The Knicks received excellent contributions tonight from their bench. They had to go deep into the bench tonight with so many injuries and foul trouble but everyone played well. The Knicks bench outscored the Celtics bench 55-27, as every player finished the game with a positive plus/minus ratio. Every Celtics bench player finished the game with a negative plus/minus ratio.

Brandon Jennings and Justin Holiday led the way in plus/minus, with Jennings registering a +19 and Holiday recorded a game-high +23. The bench was huge tonight, as the Knicks starters all finished with negative plus/minus ratios.

More from New York Knicks

Carmelo Anthony scored only 13 points in the game, yet the Knicks came away with an impressive team victory. Marshall Plumlee was inserted into the rotation with all of the injuries and gave the Knicks a strong 20 minutes, scoring five points with seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Courtney Lee also stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, and a career-high tying seven assists with one block.

It was a total team effort tonight from the Knicks who shocked a Celtics team that has been rolling. This is the type of performance that can jumpstart a team and exactly the performance the Knicks needed.

Three Stars

PG Derrick Rose, Knicks — Rose was outstanding tonight as the Celtics had no answer for him. He scored a season-high tying 30 points, making 13-of-24 from the field and all four free throws. Rose had things working from in the mid-range game tonight. He also added 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

C Willy Hernangomez, Knicks — Hernangomez has been in and out of the rotation all season but received minutes tonight with the injuries and foul trouble. He responded with arguably the best game of his Knicks career. Hernangomez registered his first career double-double, scoring 17 points with 11 rebounds in only 20 minutes of play.

PG Isaiah Thomas, Celtics — Thomas has been a dynamo all season and tonight was no different. He scored at will against the Knicks, making forays to the basket and scoring over players more than a foot taller than him, while also showing off his range. Thomas poured in 39 points, going 12-of-25 from the field and 5-of-12 from deep while making all 12 of his free throw attempts. He also had three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
