New York Mets Rumors: The Mets are talking trade with the Baltimore Orioles at the MLB Winter Meetings with talks surrounding outfielders and bullpen arms.

New York Mets rumors continue to pop up on the trade front. It is no secret that the Mets are looking to alleviate their logjam in the outfield. With Yoneis Cespedes re-signing already, the Mets now have a glut of players in the outfield. Michael Conforto and Juan Lagares are expected to held onto, but the same cannot be said for Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce.

More from Mets Rumors

Those are the two players that the Mets have been shopping and receiving the most calls about. The Toronto Blue Jays have been in on Bruce since last offseason and reportedly began another push for him in the last week. The Blue Jays have also expressed interest in Granderson, who has reportedly garnered more talks than Bruce has.

You can now add another prospective team to the Bruce and Granderson landing spots; the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles need some outfield help and they have a player the Mets are interested in acquiring in Brad Brach.

Buster Olney of ESPN and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports and MLB Network both are reporting that the Mets and Orioles are talking. Both have said the Mets like Brach, and Rosenthal goes further saying the Orioles prefer to acquire Granderson over Bruce.

The Mets and Orioles would make for a good match. The Mets have a surplus of outfield talent and the Orioles can use some outfield help, especially if they are unable to retain Mark Trumbo.

The Mets need bullpen help, as they have Fernando Salas and Jerry Blevins as free agents and Jeurys Familia facing a potential suspension. The Orioles, on the other hand, have a penchant for finding quality relief help on the cheap; Brach falls into that range as well as Darren O’Day, a former Mets player.

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Orioles prefer Granderson to Bruce. Despite Granderson being owed a little more money, about $2 million, he has been a more consistent player overall. Granderson also brings more versatility. He can fill in as a centerfielder, which is why the Mets would like to keep him as well.

There is no indication that a trade is close to being made, but expect the two teams to continue talking throughout the Winter Meetings. This is a good time for teams to guage trade interest so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Mets shop around for the best deal.
