Los Angeles Rams vs New York Jets

The Los Angeles Rams will be heading across the country to face the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in Week 10. It is a matchup between two underwhelming teams, as they both enter the game with only three wins on the season; the Rams have one less loss because they have had their bye week already.

Both teams are desperate for a victory. The Rams are riding a four-game losing streak, which followed up a three-game winning streak. The Jets lost last week to the Miami Dolphins, snapping a two-game losing streak. Getting a victory heading into the bye would be nice, even though the postseason is a longshot at this time.

On the injury front, both teams are relatively healthy. The Rams could have all 22 starters ready to go this weekend. The Jets are going to be without center Nick Mangold for a third straight game. Ryan Clady was placed on IR earlier in the week. Ryan Fitzpatrick is also a game-time decision. Rookie linebacker Darron Lee will be back in the lineup after missing the past three games.

Keys To The Game

More from New York Jets

How effective will Ryan Fitzpatrick be? The Jets are hoping that he can start, but he injured his knee last week against the Dolphins. If he is unable to go, Bryce Petty would make his first start of the season.

That is the last thing the Jets want. The Rams have a formidable defense despite the 3-5 record. Aaron Donald single-handedly destroys offensive lines and without Mangold and Ryan Clady the Jets are short-handed. The Jets are in trouble at quarterback no matter who is under center. A hampered Fitzpatrick isn’t anything to get excited about and someone with the inexperience of Petty instills little confidence.

This could be the first time we see Devin Smith as well this season. Smith has battled injuries throughout his first two NFL seasons. He tore his ACL last December and is close to returning to the field, and this could be the week it happens.

Smith would bring an added dimension to the Jets offense. He is a legitimate deep-ball threat; the question is can the Jets get him the ball? Deep balls aren’t Fitzpatrick’s strength and we haven’t seen enough from Petty to determine if he can get the job done.

Containing Todd Gurley will also be paramount for the Jets. Gurley has struggled mightily this season after bursting onto the scene last season. The Rams have arguably the worst offense in the NFL and a lot of pressure falls on Gurley.

He is averaging only 3.1 yards per carry, totaling 451 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. That will just not get it done and it will be asking him a lot to get things started against the Jets run defense.

The Jets have a top-five run defense in the NFL and it will be tough sledding for Gurley. If the Jets can contain him they should have a chance at defeating the Rams.

Prediction

If you are looking for a game with a lot of offense, this isn’t the one for you. Both the Rams and Jets rely on their defense to win games, meaning a lot of low scoring affairs. Both teams also have major question marks with their offenses so points will be at a premium.

Being home and not having to travel across the country is the only positive the Jets definitely have over the Rams. That should be enough to cause the difference this week, as the Rams will be starting this game at 10 AM their time.

That should be enough for the Jets to pick up a victory.
