Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets

The Baltimore Ravens will be taking on the New York Jets in Week 7. This is a huge game for both teams, as they can both really use a victory. The Ravens began the season 3-0, but have lost three consecutive weeks. The Jets are 1-5, as their slim playoff chances are on life support; another loss would essentially be pulling the plug on their season.

This will be the second consecutive week that the Ravens play at MetLife Stadium. They faced off with the New York Giants last week and were on the receiving end of a historic performance from Odell Beckham Jr. It could be another long week, as the Ravens are extremely banged up.

That is one of the keys to the game to keep an eye on when the Ravens and Jets kick off Sunday afternoon.

Keys To The Game

While quarterback Joe Flacco is expected to play, the Ravens look like they could be without six starters against the Jets. Linebackers C.J. Mosley and Elvis Dumervil have already been ruled out. Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., linebacker Terrell Suggs, cornerback Shareece Wright, and guard Marshal Yanda are all doubtful to play.

The Ravens will be counting on a number of younger players to step into prominent roles. With all the players potentially missing on defense, the Jets may have picked a good time for a quarterback change.

More from New York Jets

You may have heard that the Jets benched Ryan Fitzpatrick this week. In his place, the Jets will be turning to Geno Smith. He should have his regular starting offensive line ahead of him, which is a plus against a depleted Ravens’ pass rush.

The Jets should be able to give Smith time, which would be huge for his first start of the season. With so many injuries, the Jets should be able to get something going offensively. Expect them to lean on the running game as well, as they do not want to force Smith to win the game for them.

The Jets have gone away from Matt Forte more and more as the season has gone on, but today would be a good chance to get him back on track. Expect to see a lot of him and Bilal Powell as the Jets try and pick up a victory with Smith under center for his first start of the season.

Prediction

This could be a sloppy game from an offensive standpoint. The Ravens have a hampered Flacco under center, while the Jets are turning to Smith as the starter for the first time this season. This could very well be a defensive struggle.

If that is the case, the slight edge goes to the Jets. Despite their struggles defensively this season, they are at least have most of their regulars. The Ravens look like they will be without four starters, including their two best pass rushers and leader in Mosley.

This is the kind of break the Jets have been waiting for to get back into the win column.

Score: Ravens: 13, Jets: 17
