The New York Giants dug themselves too deep of a hole to climb out of, losing to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

31. Final. 23. 49. 16

The New York Giants struggles continued in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers. The Giants went into Lambeau Field on a two-game losing streak and left with a three-gamer as they fell to the Packers on Sunday Night Football.

It was a long night for the Giants, who were unable to get anything going consistently offensively. Eli Manning was skittish throughout the night as the Packers got continuous pressure on him; Ereck Flowers had a rough game at left tackle. The Packers sacked Manning three times, putting pressure on him all evening and hitting him another five times with eight passes defended. They also caused a fumble, which was recovered by Kenny Clark.

The Giants pass rush, on the other hand, was nonexistent. Aaron Rodgers was afforded an eternity in the pocket as his offensive line kept him clean. The Giants only got three hits on Rodgers, barely pressuring him. It allowed Rodgers to move around without any worries to see the alleys downfield.

More from New York Giants

For how well the Packers blocked for him, he had a surprisingly off night. He completed only 23-of-45 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Both interceptions came in the first half, tying a career high for interceptions thrown in a first half.

The Giants are lucky this game wasn’t out of hand before halftime, as Rodgers was slightly off his game. It allowed them to stay in it virtually until the end, but they were unable to take advantage. No matter how many opportunities the undermanned Giants defense gave the offense, they were unable to make anything of it.

The injury bug hit the Giants once again in the secondary, which was a problem throughout the night. Eli Apple was injured in the first half with a groin injury and was unable to return.

The Giants announced that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was also out with a groin injury, but he was able to get back on the field. Rodgers-Cromartie was limping around noticeably throughout the game but gutted it out for his teammates.

It was a valiant effort by Rodgers-Cromartie to get back on the field, but it went for naught. The Packers made plays when they had to, defeating the Giants despite New York winning the turnover battle 2-1. The Packers made up for that difference by dominating the yards and time of possession in the game.

Three Stars

WR Randall Cobb, Packers — When Rodgers needed a play to be made, he found Cobb. Cobb beat the Giants all night, catching nine passes for 108 yards. He was able to find space operating against the Giants cornerbacks lower on the depth chart, as Jordy Nelson was covered by Janoris Jenkins most of the night.

CB Janoris Jenkins, Giants — Jenkins showed why the Giants signed him to a big money deal in the offseason tonight. He helped hold Nelson to only four receptions for 38 yards a touchdown, with the score coming against rookie Eli Apple. He got the first two interceptions of the season for the Giants as well, adding three defended passes. He is holding down the secondary right now for the Giants as they wait for players to get healthy and back on the field.

WR Odell Beckham Jr., Giants — Beckham Jr. had the spotlight on him all week. People questioned his sideline demeanor and how his outbursts were hurting the team. There was none of that this week, as the Giants made a conscious effort to get him the ball early. He ended the game with 12 targets, catching five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. He made a spectacular catch on his touchdown to get the Giants back into the game, toe-tapping on the sideline in the back of the endzone. This should quiet some of his critics as he was not a reason for the Giants losing.
